Hampton Classic Week: When to Book Dinner, and What Each Night Looks Like

The Hampton Classic runs August 23 to 30, and the week has a shape to it. Most people book against that shape rather than with it. Here is what each stretch of the week looks like from a table in Bridgehampton, and when to reserve if you want the seat you actually had in mind.
The First Half Is the Easy Half
Sunday through Wednesday the show is running but the crowds are not yet what they will be. The grounds clear sooner, and dinner in the village behaves close to normal. If your week is flexible at all, these are the nights to eat well without planning around anybody.
An early table on a Monday or Tuesday during Classic week is one of the better‑kept things about the East End in August. You get the season’s cooking without the season’s queue.
From Thursday, Book Ahead
Thursday is where the week tightens. The bigger classes land, the tent fills, and the people who came out for the weekend arrive. Two seatings go first and they go quickly.
Six o’clock catches everyone coming straight off the grounds, still in the day’s clothes and ready to sit down.
Nine o’clock is for the people who stayed through the last round or went back to change first.
The middle of the evening, roughly seven to eight, is often what is left once the ends are gone. It is also, quietly, the best hour to be sitting in the garden.
Grand Prix Sunday
August 30 is the day the week has been building toward, and it changes the evening. The Grand Prix runs in the late afternoon, which means the grounds empty in one movement rather than in a trickle, and Montauk Highway thickens in both directions at the same time.
Two things follow from that. Reserve earlier than you think you need to. And if you are driving back east afterward, a later table is a more comfortable choice than one you have to race to.
If You Did Not Book
The bar seats twenty, and it is the seat worth asking about when the dining room is spoken for. On a night when both ends of the evening are full, it is often the thing still moving. Call or text before you drive over rather than after.
The Garden
Thirty seats outside, and late August is the short window the room was built for. Ask for it when you book. It is not a guarantee, since weather takes it away and there are only thirty of them, but nobody gets it who did not ask.
After the Classic
Worth knowing if you are planning past the show. Nourish serves dinner nightly through the end of August. From September the schedule moves to Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and the season closes at the end of the month. The last few weekends are exactly that.
